Youth Climate Pitch Competition in Review: Highlights and Key Takeaways π
Inside the Youth Climate Pitch Competition - Clean and renewable energy solutions from racialized Nova Scotian Youths.

With an average daily temperature of -5.6ΒΊC, did you know that Canada ties with Russia as the coldest country in the world?
That may be hard to believe if youβve experienced temperatures anywhere near what we have on the East Coast these past few weeks.
Truthfully, weβre used to temperatures being up and down in most parts of Canada β in some cases, it's due to changing seasons, and in others, it's the result of a changing climate.Β
A couple months back, we partnered with Halifax Climate Investment, Innovation and Impact (HCi3) Fund to host the Youth Climate Pitch Competition. This competition was a way to involve youth in Atlantic Canada in developing solutions that combat climate change.
The initiative took us through several stages, including a 1.5-month-long application period, a community networking event, and it culminated with a live pitch day celebration.
You can check out the full event recap on HCi3βs blog, or watch this video here:
As you can see, the pitch day, which took place on May 9th at the offices of our friends, Mob Squad, was a great success and we have many people to thank for this.
Thank you to the HCi3 and Tribe teams for your hard work in planning, coordinating, promoting, and running the pitch event and all checkpoints leading up to it.
Thank you to our judges (Michael Polak, President and CEO of Akwekon Enterprises, Julia Sable, Manager of Strategic Outreach and Initiatives at HCi3, and Guangling Jiao, Investment Associate with Invest Nova Scotia) for lending your time and expertise to the panel.
Thank you to Comfort Foodies for catering, I-Hop Media for capturing photos, and That Sound Guy for capturing video.
Thank you to everyone who came out to watch the pitches, all applicants and participants!

To beautifully wrap up this initiative, weβd like to take a moment to highlight our event winners.Β
The competition was EXCEPTIONAL - truly. The crowd got to hear some very innovative ideas and witness some very creative pitches. After much deliberation, the first-place prize (and audience choice) went to LDN Records, a music production company looking to build a sustainable music studio. This studio will model a renewable, eco-friendly design, and it is intended to serve as both a welcoming and safe environment for our youth and surrounding communities.

Our runner-up was Cavlom Enterprises, who is developing electric auto-rickshaws for auto-rickshaw drivers in Nigeria.Β
This electric solution is designed to save drivers money while also protecting the planet from greenhouse gas emissions. Their goal is to eventually expand service across Nigeria and the rest of Africa.
We wish Cavlom, LDN, and all other climate leaders the best of luck in executing their solutions!
